Santa Lucía Milpas Altas is its own municipality on the main highway between Antigua and Guatemala City, about fifteen to twenty minutes from the park and at nearly 2,000 m, so it is cooler and greener than the valley. The town wraps around the highway, with shopping and services along it, and it is the natural choice for buyers who work in the capital but want to be close to Antigua. Traffic on the highway can get intense at weekends, which is the trade for the location.
It is a wonderful place to look if you want something away from the city but not quite at Antigua prices, and there are gated communities around Santa Lucía for buyers who prefer that option.
