Niños de Guatemala (NDG) is a 2006-established Guatemalan-Dutch non-governmental organization, which works towards building a better future for Guatemalan children where such work is needed most. We believe the keys to achieve such a goal are: education, empowering local communities and reaching self-sufficiency.

In January 2009, NDG opened a primary school in the town of Ciudad Vieja, 15 minutes away from Antigua. The school Nuestro Futuro offers access to education to children from the most underprivileged families, who would not have such an opportunity otherwise. Some of our students are the first of their families to achieve literacy.

The school is built to hold eight grades of pre-school and primary school. In 2009, the school was started with three grades. Each year, a new grade is added to the school so that by 2014 the school will be completed.

An experienced local staff runs Nuestro Futuro and provides the children with a government-approved educational program. Remedial teaching, arts, crafts and sports are also taught with the help of volunteers.

Parents are involved as much as possible in the education of their child as we believe educating a child is educating a family.

To further empower the overall local community, Nuestro Futuro will open a community centre where everyone will have access to a library, talks and conferences.
